It's REVEAL TIME!!! Welcome back to my progress of the "One Room Challenge" hosted by the lovely Linda from "Calling it Home" and sponsored by "House Beautiful" and "Home Love Network"! It's week 6 which means this is the week where I show you the completed space! And I couldn't be more thrilled!! I honestly didn't think I'd make it. That thought occurred to me the night I had to custom make 6 pillows pronto for the room. To say I'm tired is an UNDERSTATEMENT! But do I have a reveal to show you! Let's first take a step back though to what the space looked like 6 weeks earlier. The "Before" Pictures This former nursery underwent some serious surgery. The bones stayed the same but the room got a total makeover! The Glorious "After" Pictures! It's quite the ... [ Read More ]

Oh. My. Goodness. Storage, and assembly and painting, oh my! We're in the home stretch of the "One Room Challenge" with only one week to go until the reveal! Am I nervous about getting it all done? Yes! Linda, let's talk about extensions! ;) Until then, let's talk about the "wall of storage" that my other half got up in time for this post! (Thank you John!!) But first, let me show you my progress thus far! (Week 1) I revealed we were going to make over our daughter's room! (Week 2) I showed you the current layout of the room and my design plan; (Week 3) I dove into my daughter's closet and gave it a makeover! (Week 4) I showed you my easy DIY bedside tables! Back to week 5! "Wall of Storage" Here is what lived on said wall before: I originally used two ... [ Read More ]
“One Room Challenge” Spring Edition 2018 (Week 4) – Easy DIY Bedside Tables!
Can you believe we're in week 4 of this challenge?! (Linda, can we have an extension?!) ;) This week I'm going to be showing you the easy DIY bedside tables I came up with for my little girl's room! But let's start with a recap of what's been done so far: (Week 1) I revealed we were going to make over our daughter's room! (Week 2) I showed you the current layout of the room and my design plan; (Week 3) I dove into my daughter's closet and gave it a makeover! Onto week 4! Easy DIY Bedside Tables Storage is a big deal in this kiddo's space so I'm trying to maximize it where I can. Her closet will store some toys and books but with her huge book collection, I needed more book storage! After scouting out some ideas, I found something I could DIY that would work both in ... “One Room Challenge” Spring Edition 2018 (Week 3) – Kid Closet Organization!
We're halfway there! (GULP!!) It's week 3 here in the "One Room Challenge" world and I have some progress to show you! In week 1 I revealed that I was going to transform the nursery into a little girl's room, and in week 2 I outlined the room layout and design plans. This week let me take you to the room's main organization station, the closet! The Closet The idea for this closet was inspired by the playroom bench the amazing Jen from "I Heart Organizing" came up with! (That girl is an organizational guru!) Before IKEA changed out the EXPEDIT products for their new KALLAX line, I scooped up three of their 1 x 5 Expedit units for this very project! The closet area was able to accommodate one of these units horizontally so I started with that. Then we vertically stacked two ... [ Read More ]
“One Room Challenge” Spring Edition 2018 (Week 2) – “The Warehouse”
How are you enjoying the "One Room Challenge" so far? Have you taken a look at all of the designers and their plans for their spaces? I'm so crazy inspired that I may call Linda from "One Room Challenge" to organize an ORC every six weeks! (Ok my hubby just read this and is shaking his head 'no', LOL!) This week we're talking layout and the state of our home during this makeover. We're dubbing it "The Warehouse". It has to get ugly before it can get pretty, right?! ;) I've been sourcing my head off as I'm sure all of the designers of this challenge have! And I came to quickly realize that the things that you imagine in your head aren't necessarily out there and/or DIY-ing them is impossible! I did however find some pretty fantastic stuff that I'm dying to show to you! But ... [ Read More ]
The “One Room Challenge” Spring 2018 Edition Begins! (Week 1)
If you're new at "Design Inside The Box", welcome! My name is Lidia and I'm an interior design lover and an organizational nut who occasionally gets her craft on! The ORC has begun and I couldn't be more thrilled! A big thank you goes out to Linda of "Calling it Home" and "One Room Challenge" who created and organized this all! There's nothing like a deadline to get me motivated to finish something. ;) The Room I've been teasing about what room I'll be working on for the ORC with this design plan, this one, and finally this one! Have you guessed which one I'm going to be tackling for the next 6 weeks?! (Hint: It involves my adorable little helper) It's our little girl's room! It was due. She's turning 4 VERY soon and her room needs an update, pronto! (It still has a ... [ Read More ]
The ORC Starts this Week!!!
Happy Easter (Monday!) That's how I'm justifying my mocha this morning ;) Are you still stuffed full of chocolate?? I'm popping in quick to tell you that my posts for the next 6 weeks will be on Thursday mornings to coordinate with the "One Room Challenge" that starts this week! And while I haven't told you yet what room I'll be making over, you can see I have some cute help to encourage me along the way: See you on April 5th! ... [ Read More ]
DIY Chalkboard!
There's a wall in my dining room that is blank. And this wall is big. I normally don't have any problems decorating walls but with this one, I've struggled. Decorating Options! Artwork: My thought on artwork is that it would have to be something we could all enjoy. It's a tall order given that we all have different styles! (A Paw Patrol mural was out of the question). Gallery Wall: We already have one in the space that I call my "wall of mirrors". Adding another gallery wall would make the room look and feel too busy. Nothing: I considered not putting up anything on that wall. But when you're sitting down at the table, your eyes inevitably glance up at that wall and there's nothing to look at! After brainstorming a bit more, I thought a large interactive piece ... [ Read More ]
Design Plan – Laundry Room Makeover!
When we were trying to sell our home in November, that's when the spaces that needed some design attention caught my attention! I've already laid out my plans for my little girl's room and our master bathroom but today, it's all about the laundry! Here is what our laundry room looks like now, in its current state: Now it isn't a huge space. And originally there was a sink where the washer currently is now. But when the old washer/dryer died, I designed it on the fly and decided on side-by-side front loaders to give myself some counter space, something I had been dying for in this little laundry area. I just wish I had the time back then to have fully decked out the space! But here we are! Here's the design plan I had in mind: I think our Ottawa weather influenced this ... [ Read More ]
Frugal Design Find: Letter Board Light Box!
Are you a letter board/cinema box lover or hater? They are EVERYWHERE right now, have you noticed?! I actually like this trend but I wasn't sure if I wanted to invest $30-60 on it. And then I came across this at my local dollar store: Did you see the price tag? $4! FOUR DOLLARS! You can't beat that! So I caved and bought one. It came with 90 characters (letters/numbers/emojis) and it can be powered with 4 'AA' batteries or by a micro USB cable. Not bad for a little $4 box! I decided to pop it on my kitchen counter using a phrase that's one of my favourites, courtesy of my mother-in-law! This is what it looks like when it's fully lit up: Isn't it cute?! I've just put it in my kitchen with a little bowl to keep the rest of the letters and characters in ... [ Read More ]
