I don't know about you but in our house, we use plastic sealable bags EVERYWHERE! From using them for their actual intended purpose (i.e., food!) to toys, puzzle pieces, hardware, etc. They are resuable, sturdy and practical! And recently I discovered that the boxes they are housed in are just as useful too! Easy Craft Project using Empty Boxes! Materials You'll need: An empty box Scissors Self-adhesive shelf liner or cover paper A pencil The Process! Step 1: Undo your box until it's completely flat. Our “Back to School” Drop Zone System!
School is coming up quick for our kiddos so it's time to think of lunch prep (gah!) and organizing! We needed a back to school drop zone system quick since our current system was pretty much drop everything on the floor when you come in. Until now! Our "Back to School" Drop Zone System! Sniff. My little girl is now 4 (FOUR!!!) and she will be off to kindergarten next week. If you asked me where the time went, I have seriously no idea!! But I have been enjoying all of the back to school organizing and shopping :) Her and I have hit the town running and I think we have all of the clothes and school supplies ready but looking at our entryway that we re-did not long ago, things needed to be tweaked a bit. (Just as a refresher, this L-shaped bench was created with using IKEA's "Besta" ... [ Read More ]
Living Room Toy Organization and Storage Solutions!
I have a 4 year old with 4 years of toys to prove it! And they all seem to land in our living room. One of the ways we've hidden those toys is with the extra storage we created using storage ottomans in our coffee table: But within those ottomans was a mess. So I got my organizing hat on and got down to work! Step #1 - Clear it All Out and Categorize! The first step to any organization project is clearing out the mess first and assessing what you have. Next up is to categorize what is staying and then shop for storage solutions that work for your space. (Side note, that's my favourite part) :) I had bought a bunch of these containers for the kitchen but they worked so well for our toy issue! I also used clear glass vases to hold artwork and extra paper supplies ... [ Read More ]
THE Best Reusable Grocery Bag!
Yup, you read that right. I found, what I believe to be THE best reusable grocery bag that I'm actually consistently using. And loving! My Inspiration The idea came from the most recent issue of "Storage" magazine: See those beautiful bucket bags down there? The editors suggested using them as an alternative to standard grocery bags and grocery bag alternatives. They're sturdier, they have a flat bottom and they tote shaped so you could really use them for any type of shopping, not just groceries. I also love how cleanable they are. They come in at $20 US a piece at the Container Store, and while I'm sure they're worth that price, I wasn't sure I wanted to invest in a bunch until I knew whether or not this system would be for me. But then I found these beauties at $4 ... [ Read More ]
My Purse Busted…and now it’s Home Decor!
You know that feeling when you find your "it" bag for the summer? The one you hoped you would find and then you walk into TJ Maxx or Winners and what you imagined miraculously was there? This bag was that for me: But after filling it waaaaaaaaay too much with stuff on a certain Haven trip, it busted. I was heartbroken. I was thisclose to throwing the purse out in my hotel room when I thought, wait, I think I can translate this loss into some sort of home decor. And I did! How to Turn a Busted Purse into Home Decor! The bag itself is a circular woven rattan bag so I thought, if I could take the handles off, I could use each of the circle sides as decor. The process was easy! Get your scissors out! With anything woven, you have to be careful with what you cut, otherwise ... [ Read More ]
How to Install a DIY Pendant Light WITHOUT Hardwiring Anything!
There are rooms in my home where no electrical was placed in the ceiling. So floor lamps, table lamps, even string lights make up my lack of light in that space. How to DIY a Geometric Vase!
In the midst of working on another project that I've been dying to show you, I had quickly DIY-ed a vase I had into one that was more interesting - well, geometric! And it was SUPER easy. My luggage made it! (Haven Conference 2018 Recap!)
The title says it all!!! If you remember my experience from last year, you'll know how I lived for 80% of the conference without my luggage which had EVERYTHING. Business cards, clothes, shoes, everything. This year I was smart and packed pretty much all of my essential stuff (including 2 changes of clothes!) into my carry-on. Then I had a déja-vu moment. I arrived in Charleston and the carousel did NOT have my checked bag. So off I went to the airline baggage area and wouldn't you know it, my bag came EARLY!!! The weekend was already off to a great start :) Hello Haven Conference and Hello Charleston, South Carolina! Day 1 I had the pleasure of bunking with the lovely Ursula from "Home Made by Carmona" on the first night, a blogger I had been following for years. You know how ... [ Read More ]
My Vacation Souvenir (Say “Hello” to my New Frog Friends!)
We recently went for a family trip to Williamsburg, VA and we LOVED it! Contrary to what we originally thought, there were an incredible amount of things to do, not only for our 4 year old but for adults alike! Including shopping which is always high on my agenda ;) We went to a very charming (and very LARGE) shopping complex called "Williamsburg Pottery" and this is where I met my new frog friends! They are shallow wicker baskets that cost me a whopping $0.59 each. (Is that not insane?!?!) If you know me, you know I have love for adding something unexpected (usually involving animal shaped things) in my designed spaces. So it was no surprise to anyone that I picked up 2 of these cute little frogs! The only thing I wanted to change though was their colour. So I hit our ... [ Read More ]
Easy Cabinet Hardware Makeover!
I found a product that had my head spinning with ideas on how to use it. It's one of those products that you buy, knowing you're going to use it for something and then it hits you! For me, my inspiration was our cabinet hardware. Easy Cabinet Hardware Makeover! The hardware I was looking to change has a brushed nickel finish and it's just plain boring. The Find! With that, my new find got my design juices flowing! It's metallic adhesive film which I found at the dollar store and I'm cuckoo bananas for it! (For my Canadian friends, "Dollarama" is my go-to spot.) If you can't find this product at your local dollar store, Amazon has a ton of options for a similar product! (Affiliate link provided) The Process! I've been playing around with metallic finishes in our ... [ Read More ]
