I don’t know about you but with holidays like Valentine’s Day approaching, I find myself living vicariously through our kiddo! I remember getting excited about picking out which Valentine’s Day cards to give, getting excited to see my favorite color (pink!) all over the place, etc. It’s such a cute and fun time! Last year I got crafty and came up with a DIY heart envelope to house all of your cards or goodies. This year I’m all about keychains as the one I use is UGLY!
DIY Valentine’s Day Keychains!
The process couldn’t be easier.
Step 1: Gather your materials!
Now I hope you didn’t think I was going to show you how to intricately cut this heart wood shape! 😉 I found these cute shapes at the Dollar Tree along with the snake chains that will hold it all together.
- Heart Shaped Wooden Cut-outs (Dollar Tree had a great selection!)
- Snake Chains
- Acrylic Paint
- Foam Brush
- Pliers
Step 2: Start painting!
Paint your wooden shape in your chosen paint color and let dry. I had to do about 2 coats to get the coverage I wanted.
Step 3: Get your pliers out!
This sounds like it will be a hard step to do but it isn’t, promise! You first have to pry open the little joining circle on the snake chain so that you can attach the heart shape to the chain. Once your wooden shape is attached, use your pliers to re-close the joining circle.
Step 4: Pat yourself on the back – you’re done!
Told you it was easy!!! And oh so sweet! Waaaaaaaay better than my ugly broken keychain I was using. If you’re in the same boat (or if you’re thinking this would make a cute gift), try it out and let me know what you think!

These are so cute! And I love an easy project. 😉 Pink is my fave, too – although I hated it when I was a kid. Ha! Perfect for Valentine’s Day!
