Happy Thursday! (Surprised to see me here?!) Today I’m participating in a Valentine’s Day blog hop organized by the lovely Jo-Anna from “A Pretty Life in the Suburbs“! (Be sure to check out her gorgeous blog!)
Now let’s talk Valentine’s Day. I find it to be a tricky design holiday. Actually all holidays (except for Christmas and possibly Halloween) are tricky design holidays. You don’t want to invest a lot of money on seasonal décor items, but at the same time you want your home to reflect the fun associated with that holiday! (Although if decorating for every holiday is your jam, go forth, purchase and decorate!)
With Valentine’s Day, I like to go the craft route. You can easily make things, use them, gift them and then put them away! Mine this year involves something you know I’m passionate about: POUCHES!
Remember this post? Pouches saved my bacon when it came to organizing my purse and while the ones I picked up were just what I needed at the time (and pretty too!), I thought to myself, “I can make these!”. So off I went drawing up a pattern and trying to figure out the easiest way to DIY them! Enter these items:
- Felt (a 9″ x 12″ piece is enough for one pouch but make sure to get a few in different colours!)
- Scissors
- Needle and Thread
- Self Adhesive Velcro Circles
- This FREE pattern I made!
Step 1: Cut out all 3 pieces from the pattern and pin them to your felt. I used a different colour for the pouch and for the heart embellishment.
Step 2: Now for the heart of it all! (Ha Ha!) Once you’ve cut out all of your pieces, take piece (C) and align it to piece (A) and pin them together. With your needle and thread, start sewing (C) to (A) using large, even stitches.
Step 3: Now take piece (A) and flip it over. Take piece (B) and place it on top of piece (A), pin them together and start sewing up the three sides using the same large stitching as in Step 2. This is to create the actual pouch you’ll be using.
Ta-da! Your pouch has been made!
Step 4: Take your self adhesive Velcro circles and apply them to the tip of (A) and where it will close on (B).
AND YOU’RE DONE!!!
I’m telling you, once you get the hang of it, it’ll take you all of 10 minutes to make these. And the uses are endless! They could carry candy, gift cards, actual Valentine’s Day cards (gasp!), makeup, spare change, Paw Patrollers…
