Halloween is almost here!!! And for those wondering, I haven’t bought any candy yet because that’s our household’s weakness – especially mine! But like I mentioned last week, I LOVE decorating for this occasion as it is rooted in black with bold hits of color. This week I’m going to show you how I tarted up our fireplace mantel using a few really simple decorations!
Materials
Like I mentioned, I went minimalist in terms of decorations. But I made sure they were in-line with my current home decor in terms of color. So I stuck with black with an accent of purple – our living room colors!
I used:
- Black Netting Fabric
- 2 Large Black Spiders
- 8 Purple Bats
- 2 “Boo” Signs
That’s it! I couldn’t link up the rest of the materials as I found most of them at the “Dollar Tree” which brings me to a very important tip: don’t overlook dollar or variety stores for inexpensive decorations that could fit the bill!
Start Decorating!
This was the fun (and easy!) part! Here is how our fireplace mantel is usually styled:
And here is our mantel after simply stringing up the black netting and placing a few decorations on it:
The nice thing about black netting fabric is that this type of sparkly decoration sticks onto it without the need for any sewing, hot glue or any other holding agent. So they’re easy to put up AND take down. Decor that’s easy to put up and take down (and store!) are all key things I look for when I decorate for a particular occasion. I’ve been cleaning up our insanely full storage basement and when I get inspired by something, I remind myself that if I can’t easily store it, or its use is limited, then I shouldn’t buy it!
Luckily these cute little spiders are nice and light and very pack-able 😉
