The lovely Joann of "Woman in Real Life" and Lisa Marie of "Fabulous Habits" are hosting a Canada Day Blog Hop this week and I threw my hat in to show you my latest obsession, modern wreaths! And this one was easy (and I mean EASY) to make. It all revolves around this floral tile I found at Michaels: I took a dollar store frame that was for a 4" x 6" photo and I printed off this free image: The grid design on the back of the floral tile and some ribbon is how this whole thing is going to come together! I first strung one piece of ribbon through the frame along the top and repeated the process for the bottom. Then I flipped the floral tile over and threaded the ribbon through the top and the bottom of the floral tile. Tie each set of ribbon ends together ... [ Read More ]
Frugal Design Find: Chic Curtain Tie Backs!
It's probably of no surprise to you that I love the dollar store. And that wasn't always the case! I used to think, if it's so cheap, how could it be good?! Well folks, it's good. And it keeps getting better! While stopping in to pick up some gum and a shower pouf, I found adorable curtain tie backs that were perfect for my daughter's newly made over room. But I didn't want to commit to putting holes in the wall quite yet! So I bought some shower suction cup hooks that I modified to fit the bill. I took the daisy off and mounted the suction cup on the wall. Then I took the tie back and literally tied back the curtain, using the newly installed, temporary hook. Isn't it cute?! And so appropriate for the space. Here is one panel with the tie back and one ... [ Read More ]
Easiest DIY Pillow Cover EVER!
I know what you're thinking. There are TONS of DIY pillow cover tutorials out there. But I recently had to sew six (SIX!) pillow covers for my daughter's bedroom in one evening and I discovered a few tricks along the way that will make you want to sew your own envelope pillow cover STAT! Let's do this!! Step 1 Buy your pillow form first. This will dictate how much fabric you need! I like this one from IKEA which is soft and the size is perfect for the patio chair I'm making this pillow cover for. Step 2 Purchase your fabric. For a 26" x 26" pillow form, 1 yard of fabric is plenty. Step 3 We need to cut 3 pieces out for an envelope pillow. Time Saving Tip #1 - DON'T MEASURE! Eye-balling it is sufficient! For the first piece, place your pillow form on ... [ Read More ]
How to Install Door Hardware as Hooks with the Home Depot!
Remember the space behind my daughter's door that I turned into a little dressing area? I installed hooks to hold her hat collection and a large mirror, all of which were shallow enough to tuck into that space without the door smacking into it when you opened it. But did you know that those hooks are actually inexpensive door hardware from the Home Depot? My hubby told me that part of my design mojo involves using objects in unconventional ways. And yup, he's right! I struggled to find traditional hooks that were shallow enough to install behind a door and hooks that didn't have the potential to poke a child's eye out. These babies did the trick! (And they are very budget friendly at $1 per "hook") Here's what you'll need: "Hooks" (i.e., the door hardware you ... [ Read More ]
“One Room Challenge” Spring Edition 2018 – The Details!
PHEW!!! I'm still in recovery mode from the "One Room Challenge" that just ended. Have you gone to see all of the room transformations by the way? I'm still making my way through them and they are SO GOOD!! Last week I revealed our newly made over bedroom for our little girl and I was so pleased with how it turned out. And I'm happy to report our little girl LOVES IT! But in revealing all of the goodness last week, I didn't reveal any of the details on where I picked up all of my goodies! So today I'm going to tell you everything! Let me start with my 3 favourite items in the space. First up, the bed! It looks like a daybed doesn't it? But it's really IKEA's MINNEN bed frame . The trick is that I purchased two of these bed frames and used both headboards to create this ... [ Read More ]

That thought occurred to me the night I had to custom make 6 pillows pronto for the room. To say I'm tired is an UNDERSTATEMENT! But do I have a reveal to show you! Let's first take a step back though to what the space looked like 6 weeks earlier. The "Before" Pictures This former nursery underwent some serious surgery. “One Room Challenge” Spring Edition 2018 (Week 3) – Kid Closet Organization!
We're halfway there! (GULP!!) It's week 3 here in the "One Room Challenge" world and I have some progress to show you! In week 1 I revealed that I was going to transform the nursery into a little girl's room, and in week 2 I outlined the room layout and design plans. This week let me take you to the room's main organization station, the closet! The Closet The idea for this closet was inspired by the playroom bench the amazing Jen from "I Heart Organizing" came up with! (That girl is an organizational guru!) Before IKEA changed out the EXPEDIT products for their new KALLAX line, I scooped up three of their 1 x 5 Expedit units for this very project! The closet area was able to accommodate one of these units horizontally so I started with that. Then we vertically stacked two ... [ Read More ]
“One Room Challenge” Spring Edition 2018 (Week 2) – “The Warehouse”
How are you enjoying the "One Room Challenge" so far? Have you taken a look at all of the designers and their plans for their spaces? I'm so crazy inspired that I may call Linda from "One Room Challenge" to organize an ORC every six weeks! (Ok my hubby just read this and is shaking his head 'no', LOL!) This week we're talking layout and the state of our home during this makeover. We're dubbing it "The Warehouse". It has to get ugly before it can get pretty, right?! ;) I've been sourcing my head off as I'm sure all of the designers of this challenge have! And I came to quickly realize that the things that you imagine in your head aren't necessarily out there and/or DIY-ing them is impossible! I did however find some pretty fantastic stuff that I'm dying to show to you! But ... [ Read More ]
