Long time no see! I can’t believe it’s December and how quickly Christmas is coming! It is my absolute favourite time of the year and I’m on countdown (pretty much always) to the next December 25th (feel free to commit me to the nearest mental institution).
As the season is fast approaching, all my thoughts turn to decorating! Our outdoor front porch area gets quite a bit of snow during the season (Ottawa has had, I believe, the second coldest winter on record – Moscow being the first) so I have to keep it minimal. I fill the urn with a fresh outdoor arrangement, I pair it with a wreath on the door and call the outdoor decorating done! This year though I was late in the game to buy a nice and large outdoor wreath and all they had left were small ones so I bought two with the idea of stacking them, one on top of the other. Should be easy to do, right?!
I took some very thin ribbon that I had and attached the two wreaths together while trying to hide the ribbon.
One problem down. The next issue was finding the Christmas wreath hanger – now have you seen my basement?! Yeah, you know it would be a great feat if I could find it in all that mess.
I was too impatient to go out and buy another one so I looked around for things I could use to somehow make this work. In comes more ribbon and a 3M Command Hook! (I’m not sponsored in any way by 3M but I LOVE their Command hook/strip line and recommend them to everyone who wants to avoid drilling holes in your walls or, in my case, door) I first attached the hook on the inside of the door and then I took the thin ribbon (I used white so that it would blend in with the door) and strung the wreaths bringing the ribbon up and over the top of the door to the hook and tied the pieces of ribbon to the hook itself:
And it held! And it’s still holding!
To cover up the hook on the inside, I used two wreaths I bought at the dollar store:
I wrapped them up in feather boas I already had and hung them on the hook:
I’m thrilled with how this solution is working and how simple it was! It’s also pretty cheap might I add – I had the hooks on hand but normally they would cost around $5 and the ribbon is $0.50. Plus everything is reusable for other purposes which is an added bonus to all of this!
Hope this inspires some creative material use (if only for a pat-on-the-back when your idea works!)

Looks great! An inspirational read with our morning coffee…you’ve done a nice job
Also noticed the finished project was strategically placed out of the reach of a 2 year old

Thanks Shirley!! Ha! Yes! I didn’t think to do that but that was a happy coincidence!

Love the stacked wreaths! You can also flip the hook upside down on the back of the door. I find there’s less chance of the ribbon slipping.

Thanks my friend!! And good idea about the hook! xo

I have never tried these hooks, but am amazed with what they can hold! And what a great idea to cover the inside of the door with those feather boas.
