Guess who’s turning 150 on July 1st?!
The lovely Lucy from Craftberry Bush organized a fabulous Canadian blog hop tour in honour of Canada’s special day and I’m honoured to be a part of it!
I am a very proud Canadian, born and raised in Canada’s capital (Ottawa NOT Toronto folks!) and to get into the spirit of this very special Canada Day, I incorporated a little Canadiana into our décor!
We have a little balcony off of the master bedroom that we often use in warmer temperatures to read, chat and chill from a busy day. So when it was nice enough to bring out some outdoor furniture into the space, I couldn’t help but Canada-it-up!
Here’s my blank canvas (yes those are Christmas lights – gah!):
And here it is with a little Canadian oomph!
Are you surprised I didn’t go all white and red? 😉 When you think of Canada you think of red and white as the go-to colour palette but I wanted to add more colour to the space as our heritage has more colour! The tote bag is from the Bay and anyone who sees these stripes knows that they are distinctly Canadian:
I found these adorable throw cushions from our local grocery store, Loblaws! (It always surprises me the things you find in places you wouldn’t think you’d find them in!)
The throw is from HomeSense and the typography is only of Canadian cities which I thought was neat!
The little storage bench is an IKEA find and I made the bench cushion from some very expensive fabric I purchased years ago that I was determined to use! (Side note, I probably should have staged a drink that isn’t clear for better pictures but I like to drink water so at least the pictures are honest!) 😉
While it was tough to get a shot of our umbrella that we put up there to help mellow out the sun on hot days, here is what it looks like when we’re sitting and looking up 🙂
I hope wherever you are in the world that you will take a few minutes on July 1st to toast this great nation on its birthday. I know we will!
Be sure to check out all the fabulousness on this Canadian blog hop! You’ll get so many ideas you’ll wish we celebrated it for a week! (Or two!)

That looks great! How fun that it’s not your typical red and white. That mug is pretty cute too!

Love that you didn’t do the expected, not that there is anything wrong with that! Love the colours you used! And what do you mean, Toronto isn’t the capital? Hahaha actually
Laurie@vinyetetc says
Oops, actually did you know that Kingston was the capital at one time?

Thanks Jessica! It’s a tiny space but it offers such a nice little nook to retreat to!
