This DIY fall wreath idea is inspired by my 3 year old. She loves the book “Chicka Chicka Boom Boom”, which tells the story of how the letters of the alphabet tease each other up a coconut tree. When the tree becomes top-heavy, that’s when it lowers it’s boom and the letters all jumble to the ground – her favourite part!
I was looking for a wreath idea for our front door, and as I’m reading this story to my little one, that’s when the idea came – a letter-inspired fall wreath! But not your typical monogram wreath. Here are the materials I used:
- Wreath Forms (Mine were made of straw and varied in size)
- Wooden Letters
- Paint
- Paint Brushes (or Sponge Brushes like above)
- Ribbon
- Hot Glue Gun
I decided to use three wreath forms in different sizes as I find a door can look bare with just one standard size wreath. You could do a very large wreath to help fill the space but when I tried that at Christmas time, I had issues closing the door without having some branches sneak their way in. So I’m giving three wreaths a shot!
The first step was wrapping each wreath with your choice of ribbon. (Heads up, for three wreaths, it took a LOT of ribbon – about 25 feet)
Then paint each letter in your chosen paint colour:
Next up is linking your wreaths together. I used plain black ribbon and tied a little knot at the back of each linkage point where no one would notice:
Now comes the fun part. Start playing around with the placement of your letters and when you’re happy with how it all looks, start gluing!
But don’t burn yourself (I got a little too excited)
Want to see how it all came together?
I hung the wreath on the inside of our front door as the outside area is currently being painted. (This was the method I used as I still can’t find my wreath hanger!)
Easy peasy, right?! And (almost!) no harm done! (Note to self, hot glue is hot).
Tell me what you think! Or better yet, try it out yourself and let me know how it goes!
