Gah. So this week’s post got bumped to next week because of camera issues so I did a post switcheroo. But it’ll be worth the wait, promise!
I’m currently working on updating a space in our home and lighting was next on my to-shop-for list so I thought I’d share my go-to places for affordable (but chic!) lighting. Hint, think big-box stores!
You think I’m crazy, right? Hunt online at big box stores and you’ll be amazed at what you can find. And generally you can pick them up in store for free (i.e., no shipping fees) and return them without a hassle in case someone (*cough* John *cough*) absolutely hates what you’ve chosen.
Here are a few that I have been looking at and keep in mind that I don’t get paid for featuring any of them – I genuinely love each and every one of these lighting fixtures and I would buy them right now if a certain someone would let me! (P.S. Click on each image for more info).
Rona
I LOVE this pendant light. Seriously I want it for my kitchen. Price? $189 right now but last week it was $113 (CANADIAN).
Lowes
I would put this beautiful fixture in my front hall if I already didn’t have one I already loved. It’s 17″ high and 20″ wide so this would be so lovely as a dining room pendant as well. Price? $190 (CANADIAN).
Home Depot
Need a more modern flushmount? Here you go! It’s sleek, contemporary and NOT a boob light. Price? $59.98 (CANADIAN)
Canadian Tire
They have a new line called ‘CANVAS’ and it is beautiful. Including their lighting fixtures. I used this one for our guest closet re-vamp a little while back and looking at it still makes me smile. Price? $89.99 (CANADIAN)
Have I convinced you yet? (Side note: I did find a fixture for that space I was talking about and it is bang-on what I need for the room and so well-priced even John couldn’t believe it. Stay tuned!)

I love the Sputnik chandelier! Having 8′ ceilings is an issue for me though. I recently posted a round-up of affordable sconce and flushmount options that I used in my kitchen. Best of luck on your lighting situation. 🙂

8′ foot ceilings – argh. But I’ll check your options out as I love chic flushmounts!

I think some of the box stores also have specialty online stores with more . I know Lowes has Atgstores.com which has a ton of home decor and some great lighting options.
We did a DIY Brass Sputnik light for our dining room just last month for under $200… very similar to the one you found ?

Ah good point!! I don’t think Canada has many of those sub-shops yet but it’s nice to know there are more options out there! And I’ll definitely check out your dining room fixture!
