Have you ever opened a closet, or a cabinet and have loads of stuff fall on you? Yup, that happened to me recently. It was our double bathroom vanity, specifically, my side of the vanity! So in a fit of frustration, I organized it, in an hour, and spent zero dollars!
How to Organize your Over-Stuffed Cabinet for $0 Dollars!
Step 1: TAKE IT ALL OUT!
This is the fun part, in my opinion – pulling it all out and creating a blank slate!
Is that not an insane amount of stuff?! I had old medication and waaaaaaay too many tampons (if my family is reading this, they may get a chuckle out that!)
Step 2: Sort and PURGE!
Once you’re surrounded in the mound of stuff you pulled out, it’s time to figure out what stays, what goes and what can be given away. BE RUTHLESS!
I gave away a surprising amount of headbands that I thought maybe someone else could use but kept our plethora of travel bags! I use pretty much every ones of those travel bags so they were an easy “keep”.
Step 3: Grab any Available Storage Container!
So this is where the zero dollars part comes in! I had all of these storage containers already in the cabinet, I just reused them in a more meaningful way. This large plastic hinged box which had NOTHING in it (!!!) now houses all of our travel toiletry bags.
All of the little round baskets I had hold items of a specific purpose (two of which are now for tampons only! Told you I had a ton of them!)
That “delivered” bag was from a Marriott hotel who graciously gifted me every travel toiletry you can imagine when my luggage was lost. So that’s what that bag is for – travel sized items!
Step 4: Put it all Back!
The key to keeping a cabinet organized is by having the things you use most frequently easily reachable and have the things that you only occasionally use linger in the background.
Don’t you feel like you can breathe a bit better looking at this? (Ok I do!!)
Do you have a cabinet or space that could use a little purging? (Please tell me as I don’t want to be the only one that’s an over-stuffer!)

Love your work! I have the same large hinged box in various sizes I’ve been using for years! I have to ask: What is in the bowl on the right with all the little faces? They are obviously important enough to have made the cut!
Lidia says
Debbie, you are so sweet – thank you!! Those little faces are actually little containers of solid perfume! They’re quite old so I have an idea to scoop out the insides and put in either new solid perfume or maybe lip balm? They were too cute to get rid of! 🙂
