Well, one really that’s split into two. And when I went in to reach for something recently in said cabinet, twelve things fell out and smacked my head in the process. So here I am with another organizing post!
This cabinet is in the kitchen right by the back door and it serves as a multi-purpose storage space for things like tape, change, sewing kits, scissors, etc. I was so frustrated that I don’t have many before pictures (believe me, this space was JAMMED!) but here are a couple to give you an idea of the mess that was inside:
To put it all back together required a purge and an assessment of what we need/use in this jack-of-all-trades cabinet and then something to categorize all the stuff going back in.
Say hello to these little wonders:
I had measured the space out and found that these little baskets (in a small and medium size) would do trick so I set out to organize all of our do-dads. They are very similar to Target’s y-weave baskets (I miss you Target Canada!) but imagine me doing a little happy dance when I found them at the dollar store!
I whipped up some cute labels to help categorize everything (I couldn’t resist):
Want to see the after?
EVERYTHING is now categorized – tape, small tools, stationary, pens, you name it! On the lower shelf I added in a shelf riser to allow more bins to tuck in underneath and to allow for some larger items to be stowed right beside. On the second shelf you’ll notice that two sets of bins are stacked, one on top of the other. I took black foam core board and cut a makeshift shelf that surprisingly holds another layer of baskets!
On the inside panel of each cabinet door are some quick bulletin boards I made out of cork sheets and self-adhesive shelf liner I already had on hand:
(*breathing audible sigh of relief*)
Best part? When I look for tape, it’s there in the bin (labelled ‘tape’)! And further concussions have been avoided. For now.
