Today.
It has been awhile since I’ve posted! And while I thought about quickly throwing posts together these last few weeks, I hesitated. Every year I make a commitment to myself to post at least once per week, do all the social media bits, nail down a few sponsorships and hope it would all be cohesive. But it isn’t.
Lately I’ve been feeling like my blog is splayed between design posts, DIYs, link parties, quick organizing tips, you get the idea.
And while I’ve enjoyed writing these posts, I found myself frantically trying to put something authentic together every week, hoping for that cohesion and, most of all, hoping that my ideas would be inspiring to you. But in doing so, I feel everything has been too rushed. And in some cases, not well thought out or executed.
In the process of thinking how to streamline my post content, I also got to thinking about my blog name. I still love it and it still is relevant to my approach to design BUT, I may have found a different name that makes more sense to use. And one that I may love just a little bit more. As this blog undergoes a major redesign this year, that may be one of my “renovated” items 😉
Tomorrow.
So what DO I want this blog to become? I want it to be all about design. It will still feature a few DIYs but they will be focused on design and not just one-off crafts. Mostly it will be about my adventures in decorating and my ever-evolving style. I’ll be inviting you all into the bits of my home that have been re-done and also the bits that haven’t. I want to show you what (I think!) are inventive ways to use your space (i.e., designing inside the box – ha!) as well as some of my quirkiness which I’m not sure has shown through.
To show you what I mean, I found something that is the perfect summation of my decorating style, all in one object:
I call her Tucan Tallulah. And she is exactly what my design style is all about. Based in neutrals of black, white and grey with hits of bold colour for interest – and she’s quirky! She and a few friends will be living on our little outdoor bedroom patio when the weather warms up but for now, she’s in my soon-to-be home office and I can’t get enough of her!
What’s Next.
A redesign of any kind is a huge undertaking and I want to make sure I get it right. But I still want to produce quality content for you that will be in line with my new vision. So rather than promise a weekly post, I’m going to promise you quality posts. And my next project I hope will fuel that!
I’ll be turning our current guest room (into still a guest room) but also my home office! My day job is moving towards a work from where you work best mindset and working from home is becoming the new norm. I’m embracing it and hope that my new space will be an inspiring place to work. And cozy for our guests!
The great thing about it is that I’m the client on this project so I have carte blanche, so-to-speak. My other half has a more modern and minimalist approach to design and if it were up to him, we’d live in a grey box with one unadorned shelf hanging on the wall. So my design choices in the rest of our home have required some arm twisting and compromises. But this room is all mine! I can’t wait to get started!
